The mall is adjacent to the Meadowbrook State Parkway, making it one of the largest shopping centers in Illinois. It is true that Stratford is not so close to the highway, but there is no interstate access. The closest major routes to Stratfords Square are the Chicago Transit Authority's Metra Green Line and South Shore Line, both a few miles away, and Illinois Department of Transportation Interstate 94, which is about 4 miles east.

The only problem is that Stratford was built as a super-regional centre, as it attracts buyers from within a 10-mile radius. The population within a 10-mile radius is 850,000, so the center should be able to easily attract residents and thrive as a regional shopping center. Many of the residents are within 5 miles, and many of them are residents who are 5-plus miles from the mall, such as the city of St. Louis, Illinois.

Other malls in the area include parts of the mall that are still thriving and contain many popular national stores. The Whole Foods store is open, and the Fresh Thyme store has been open for a while, but the company has a history of closing its self-service stores, like the one in downtown Stratford. Other stores in the mall, such as the Wal-Mart store, as well as many of its other stores, have been temporarily closed or closed.
